The “Henry G Leong Professorship in Social Work and Social Administration” and the associated programme are particularly meaningful to me. Not only it is a wonderful tribute to my father, Henry G Leong, it will also improve the services for Hong Kong’s elderly citizens through the creation of a training programme for elderly care workers.

According to Government’s statistics in 2004, Hong Kong’s elderly population (aged 65 and above) in 2003 was 11.7% and is projected to rise to 24.3% by 2031. The needs of the elderly are multifaceted owing to physiological deterioration, health problems and frailty. The “Henry G Leong Programme” will enable local service administrators and elderly care workers to provide better social and healthcare services which support our senior citizens.
